Bipolar UK joins Head On campaign calling for urgent action on mental health

Bipolar UK is proud to support Head On, a new national campaign calling on political leaders to match public support for mental health with meaningful action.

New polling published this week by Wellcome Trust and More in Common shows that three in four people in Britain (75%) believe the government should do more to improve mental health services. The research also highlights strong, lasting public agreement on mental health across political divides, at a time when many other issues feel deeply polarised.

Despite this, Bipolar UK’s analysis of the latest Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey (APMS) shows that people living with bipolar continue to be left behind. The data points to ongoing gaps in diagnosis and access to specialist treatment, with serious consequences for people’s health, employment and financial security.

Head On brings together charities, people with lived experience and public figures to send a united message: mental health must be treated with the same seriousness and urgency as physical health. Bipolar UK joins organisations including Rethink Mental Illness, Centre for Mental Health, YoungMinds, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), Mental Health Foundation, and more.

Simon Kitchen, CEO of Bipolar UK, said:

“For people living with bipolar, delays in diagnosis and access to specialist care can be life‑altering, even life-threatening. The public is clear that mental health must be a priority; now political leaders need to listen and act. Bipolar UK is proud to be working with partners through Head On to push for a mental health system that truly delivers the care people need and deserve.”

Bipolar UK believes this moment of public consensus is an opportunity that must not be missed. With the right ambition, leadership and investment, it is possible to build a mental health system that finally meets people’s needs.
