World Bipolar Day 2026
What is World Bipolar Day?
World Bipolar Day takes place every year on 30 March. It marks the birthday of Vincent van Gogh, who was thought to have had bipolar. It’s a global moment to shine a light on a condition that affects millions of people, yet is still widely misunderstood.
The aim of World Bipolar Day is to help everyone understand what bipolar disorder is (and what it isn’t) and to help end the stigma that many people continue to face.
Every year, Bipolar UK celebrates World Bipolar Day by running events and activities online and across the country. We raise awareness, share stories, and raise vital funds so we can continue supporting anyone affected by bipolar in the UK.

Em Holdaway
Mental Health Advocate
Em is a self-termed (and very irreverent) 'madwoman' with complex mental health issues spanning several decades, who spends her free time discussing life with - and after - both chronic and acute psychiatric crises. With most major symptomatic aspects of her mental health in remission, Em is passionate about shining a light on the aspects of mental health disorders that are neither catastrophised nor glamourised; in particular, bridging the dissonance between the clinical comprehension of psychiatric disorders as diagnosed by professionals, and the complicated 'lived experience' lens that can muddy diagnosis - and, more importantly, treatment.
