
Get urgent help
Bipolar UK does not offer crisis support
If you – or someone you support – need urgent help, you can:
- Contact emergency services on 999, and ask for police and ambulance. Ask someone else to call for you if you are unable to do so.
- Contact your local Crisis Team or Single Point of Access.
- Go to the nearest Accident and Emergency Department or ask someone to take you.
- Call NHS 111, press option 2, and ask to speak to a mental health professional.
- Contact the Samaritans free on 116 123 or via email at jo@samaritans.org
- If you are under the care of your local mental health team you can contact them.
- You can request an urgent GP appointment.
Other ways to get support
- Bipolar UK Support Services – we offer free peer support calls, groups and online community to anyone affected by bipolar.
- Calmzone – provides emotional support for men nationwide. Call 0800 585858 (5pm-midnight every day). They also offer live chat and support on WhatsApp.
- Papyrus HOPELINEUK– if you’re under 35 and having thoughts of suicide (or are concerned for a young person) call 0800 068 4141 or text 88247 for free, confidential advice.
- Shout 82858– a free, anonymous text message support service, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for anyone who’s struggling to cope. Text SHOUT to 85258.
- Switchboard – if you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, call 0800 0119 1000 (10am-10pm every day) or email hello@switchboard.lgbt for support.
- C.A.L.L. (Community Advice and Listening Line) – provides emotional support, information and information to anyone in Wales, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year in Welsh or English. Call 0800 132737.
- Lifeline Northern Ireland – offers support to anyone living in Northern Ireland who is struggling to cope or feels overwhelmed. Call 0808 808 8000 or textphone 18001 0808 808 8000.
