Back to university for Bipolar UK

Hi, I’m Gabi and I am Bipolar UK’s first Marketing and Communications Intern.
I’ve been working with the Marketing and Communications team since August 2026, and what a pleasure it has been!
From being a student at Sussex University, when I was invited to join the team my mind was filled with ideas on how to engage a younger audience and ultimately contribute to Bipolar UK’s mission to reduce the bipolar diagnosis delay of 9.5 years.
So, what have I been up to you may be wondering? Let me tell you...
My first step into content creation
You may have seen some new content popping up on your feed. The university content series (created by me!) is a way to directly target university students living with bipolar with practical advice, words of support and signposting to essential information about their studies.
The content is designed with students in mind: from understanding irregular sleeping patterns, to navigating study-life balance. I wanted it to mirror key dates in the university calendar, such as offering reasonable adjustment information around exam time and providing practical advice about managing your money when student loans land in bank accounts.
This content series has reached lots of students already, but if you know a young person in your life who may benefit from it, feel free to share our posts on Instagram.
Back to school!
In September the team took a trip to the University of Sussex Fresher’s Fair to speak to students about the Maybe it’s Bipolar? campaign, share our resources and give out some Bipolar UK freebies!
I spent weeks planning out how we could engage students and effectively share information about bipolar. One way in which I did this is through my 'Maybe they have bipolar?' game. This proved to be a HUGE success with students clicking along to see which famous faces also have a bipolar diagnosis. Games like this are a great way to engage students and break down unnecessary stigma around bipolar.
We managed to gain 87 new Instagram followers, bringing more awareness to the charity and what we do. And we even picked up a few new fundraisers and volunteers along the way, too. * Crying happy tears *
That's “Reely” cool!
As part of the push for our Outside in October fundraising and wellbeing challenge, Audrey (Fundraising Assistant) and I completed a colour walk to promote the campaign. We spent our evening spotting all things blue and orange around Brighton. From a stack of oranges on the beach to the ocean itself, we collected a series of videos capturing every moment.
After, I took all the videos and made a reel which was featured on Bipolar UK’s Instagram (go check it out if you haven't already).
Let’s talk bipolar...
On Thursday 15 October, I had the opportunity to share my marketing skills and put them into action! Through a presentation given at Sussex University, in collaboration with their marketing and psychology societies, I spoke about my experience over the summer.
I started by giving a brief overview of the Maybe it's Bipolar? campaign, the partners we work with, then moved on to aspects of Bipolar UK branding. The students got to showcase what they learnt through a poster design competition, highlighting the main symptoms showcased in the Maybe its Bipolar? campaign.
...safe to say there was a lot of talent in the room!

The takeaway
My time at Bipolar UK is now coming to an end, but what a fantastic time I’ve had!
I have loved every aspect of the job, and it has felt very satisfying knowing the work I have put in has a positive impact on those living with bipolar and their loved ones. I want to take this opportunity to thank my incredible team who was there to answer my a million and one questions, make edits to my work and gave me my first job in marketing and communications. I am incredibly grateful!
The Bipolar UK team (small but mighty!) work incredibly hard and every effort they have put in has really come to fruition over the past few months. I will always hold a bit of Bipolar UK close to my heart.
With love,
Gabi 😊
P.S our campaign film has been nominated for Big Syn film festival... go and show some support if you haven't already!
