Alastair Campbell and Adam Deacon chat about their personal experiences of mental health in general and bipolar in particular in this incredible video. It deals with themes some may find triggering.

Mental health campaigner, writer and political commentator Alastair Campbell and actor, director, writer, producer and musician Adam Deacon have a fireside chat  discussing their experiences of living with a mental health condition. They talk about the continuing stigma of mental illness and how men typically find it difficult to talk about their health, especially their mental health. The conversation also focuses on suicide prevention, highlighting the increased risk for people with bipolar:

  • 1 in 20 people who take their own life in the UK have a diagnosis of bipolar
  • Someone with bipolar has a suicide risk that’s at least 20 times greater than someone without bipolar, which is higher than someone with a major depressive disorder

Yet these statistics don’t reveal the whole picture. Watch the video, share with people you know and let's keep talking about bipolar.

Suicide can be a triggering subject for many people, and it’s important you feel able to reach out and access the right support for you. Though Bipolar UK does not provide Crisis Support, we do hold some information of relevant organisations.

If you or someone you love has been bereaved by suicide you can reach out to Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide.
